Computational Geometric Mechanics at UCSD

Open Positions

Graduate Research Assistantships

Research positions for graduate students are available in the broad area of geometric numerical methods in geometric mechanics and control. These positions are supported by several active grants, including:

  • NSF DMS-1813635: Geometric Numerical Integration of Plasma Physics and General Relativity
  • NSF DMS-1411792: Geometric Numerical Discretizations of Gauge Field Theories and Interconnected Systems
  • DoD Newton Award: Transformative Ideas for Large-Scale Interconnected Systems

Please contact me by email if you are interested in any of these positions. These are full-time positions.

Postdoctoral Fellowships (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation)

As an alumni of the German-American Frontiers of Science symposium, I am able to host research stays for Feodor Lynen Research Fellows. This supports post-doctoral researchers for up to 24 months. Contact me to discuss potential proposals.

Lab News & Alumni Success

Brian Tran receives Chancellor's Dissertation Medal

2024

My former Ph.D. student, Brian Tran, received the prestigious 2024 Chancellor's Dissertation Medal, chosen based on the insight, creativity, and impact of his academic research. He is currently a Marc Kac Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Industry & Academic Collaborations

I am constantly on the lookout for interesting and challenging collaborations with scientists and engineers from academia or industry. I am available as a consultant for modeling, simulating, controlling, and quantifying uncertainty for systems that evolve on complicated nonlinear configuration spaces.
